What is Time Machine? Time Machine is a major European initiative building a large-scale digital infrastructure to collect, organize, and analyze the “Big Data of the Past.” Today, it connects more than 140 projects, making it one of Europe’s largest digital cultural heritage ecosystems.
What is Mapping Cosmoramas? This new “Cosmorama Time Machine” uncovers the fascinating circulation of cosmoramas – spectacular 19th-century optical exhibitions – across Europe and the Americas between 1818 and 1889. Drawing on archival research from the FCT-funded Curiositas project, Mapping Cosmoramas features: - Georeferenced data from 54 exhibition sites, - Advanced data visualisation tools (available via the Curiositas project website ), - A dynamic way to explore how immersive visual culture travelled across continents in the 1800s.
By combining immersive media research with digital heritage infrastructure, ImHerit is helping bring the past into the future — one dataset at a time.
