As part of its programme, the Photography Conference held at Lusófona University from October 7 to 10 featured a panel and a workshop concentrating on the developments within the FilmEU alliance.
The event, which was jointly organized by Fo:RCE, Procur.ARTE, the Film and Media Arts Department, and FilmEU, included contributions from Isolde Vanhee, Arne De Winde, and Katarína Mišíková, who are members of the On Essayism project. It addressed two subjects: 'Highlights Stage 3 Vuelta a España: Gruissan-Font Romeu, 174 stills' (with Lennert De Vroey taking part) and 'Cinematic Essayism as a Method of Artistic Research into Reality'.
The workshop, which was directed by Hugo Barata and included Paulo T. Silva, dealt with the topic "Anarchives, Constellations and other Atlases."
The various initiatives were in line with the central theme of the conference, which stemmed from the dual meaning of the Portuguese word errar (to wander / to make mistakes), and regarded this dual meaning as both a method and an approach to field work involving images. The event brought together photographers, artists, researchers, students, and faculty members from the different partner institutions that are part of the FilmEU Alliance.
