Six DocNomads films premiere in Visions du Réel, Switzerland
Ghada Fikri´s graduation film How Are You, Baba? and the short documentaries Locus cordis by Alhasan Yousef, Memories of a Perfect Day by Davina Maria, Rui by Ruslan Fedotow, I Stumble Every Time I Hear From Kyiv by Daryna Mamaisur, May the Earth Become the Sky by Ana Vijdea, will premiere at Visions du Réel International Documentary Film Festival held between 21 and 30 of April at Nyon, Switzerland.

Synopsis:
“Baba” spent 30 years of his life working in Saudi Arabia while his daughters grew up in Cairo. Much of their relationship was created and preserved through videos exchanged over the years. When they are reunited, none of the family members completely manage to abandon this form of communication, as if trapped in the logic of exile.

Conquered by Israel in 1967, the Syrian Golan has a military border running through it, which families “cross” by shouting to their loved ones. From his European exile, anxiety-ridden Alhasan Yousef attempts to break free from his inner isolation with this exploration of the power of sound, in an effort to reconnect with his lost country from afar.

Rui lives alone on the outskirts of Lisbon, making a living from illegal fishing. He sells his crabs door to door by the kilo. Using dazzling chiaroscuro effects with an impressionist touch, Ruslan Fedotow gradually reveals the daily life of a man struggling with drug addiction, and his fight to stay in touch with his son who is being kept away from him.

Maria, a 50-something member of an Orthodox parish in Lisbon, divides her time between prayer and daily tasks such as olive picking. She faces a dilemma: become an ascetic, or reconnect with her two sons. Ana Vijdea paints a sensitive portrait of a woman in the midst of existential doubt, in a film where images are mightier than words.
