The International Journal of Film and Media Arts (IJFMA) has published Volume 10, No. 3 (Dossier 1), dedicated to the research project “Visions of the Future: Iberian Visual Culture After Democracy, 1974–1998”.
This issue brings together contributions examining the role of visual communication in the Iberian Peninsula during the transitions to democracy between 1974 and 1998. The project is a collaboration between the research units DESIGN ID at Lusófona University and GREDITS at BAU – Barcelona University Centre of Arts and Design, within the Iberian Design Archives network.
The articles explore different dimensions of visual culture and design history, including archival preservation, the recovery of women's authorship, graphic and artistic practices, subcultural movements, television, cinema, and visual representations of social and political change. Together, they offer new perspectives on a graphic and visual heritage that remains insufficiently documented and understood.
The publication continues the dialogue between researchers and institutions in Portugal and Spain, highlighting the importance of archives as spaces for memory, research, and the critical understanding of the past and present.
