Under the theme “Designing the present, imagining the future”, the Portuguese Film Academy held the 15th edition of the Sophia Awards on 15 May. The awards ceremony took place at the Belém Cultural Centre, with members of Lusófona academic community receiving honours.
In this edition, which featured several new additions, productions and lecturers from the Lusófona University of Lisbon received recognition in the award categories.
The film Banzo, directed and written by Lecturer Margarida Cardoso, received several awards:
- Best Supporting Actress;
- Best Art Direction;
- Best Special Effects;
- Best Original Soundtrack;
- Best Sound;
- Best Editing;
- Best Film;
- Best Cinematography;
- Best Direction;
- Best Screenplay.
In addition to these, special mention goes to the Best Cinematography Award, awarded to film alumnus Leandro Ferrão; and the Best Direction and Best Screenplay Awards, received by the director and DCAM lecturer, Margarida Cardoso.
Gonçalo Galvão Teles, film lecturer and director of the Kino Eyes Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Film, was also honoured with the Best Series award for his production Fado Filmes.
