Lusófona University hosts mobility focused on Interconnected Journalism

Lusófona University led a FilmEU mobility project for the first time. The initiative, titled "Interconnected Journalism: reconnecting people to and through the media," was led by MagLab (part of CICANT) and established a cross-border collaboration between faculty from Estonia’s Baltic Film, Media and Arts School (TLU BFM) and Ireland’s Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT).

The mobility activities were held on 7, 8, and 9 January 2026, and were coordinated by Carla Rodrigues Cardoso, Ana Figueiras, and Ilo Alexandre, from MagLab. Over the three days, the team hosted Alessandro Nani, from TLU BFM, and Marissa Aroy, from IADT, and together they developed activities aligned with the Interconnected Journalism framework. This new conceptual approach focuses on selecting timely, relevant topics and portraying them through the eyes of diverse communities. By illuminating the social threads that bind us, the concept aims to move beyond traditional reporting and foster a deeper sense of connection between the media and the public.

The initiative also featured a presentation by Pantelis Vatikiotis, from Panteion University in Greece, who also teaches Interconnected Journalism in collaboration with MagLab. Additionally, Eduarda Alves and Inês Ramos, final-year Communication and Journalism BA students at Lusófona University, shared their experience producing the first interconnected feature ever published in a media outlet.

Beyond academic exchange, this mobility project sets the stage for future activities designed to make the media landscape more inclusive, ethical, and integrated across Europe.
