Pedro Matias

Pedro Matias has a BSc in Technological Physics Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (1998), a MSc in Mathematical Physics at University of Cambridge (1999) and a PhD in Mathematics at Instituto Superior Técnico (2006). He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Radboud University Nijmegen for six months and he started his academic career as an Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of Portugal where he stayed until 2012. From 2009 to 2012 he was also Vice-Director for academic affairs and internal quality assurance of the Faculty of Engineering. From 2012 to 2020 he was a Project Coordinator at the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES). During this period, he had a leave of absence of one year and a half and he was a Counsellor in the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Higher Education working on the funding model for the Portuguese higher education system. Since December 2020, he is an Associate Professor at Lusófona University and a researcher in several projects of the FilmEU’s cosmos. His main scientific interests are in the areas of Dynamical Systems, Differential Geometry, Quality Assurance and Governance. Outside academia, he is an enthusiastic player of duplicate bridge.
