FilmEU Launches Micro-Credentials Academy with 40 Industry-Aligned Courses for the European Audiovisual Sector

At the FilmEU Industry Summit in Lisbon this month, the FilmEU European University Alliance proudly announced the launch of the FilmEU Micro-Credentials Academy, a pioneering initiative offering an initial catalogue of 40 specialised courses designed to address the evolving upskilling and reskilling needs of the European audiovisual sector.

The academy marks a significant milestone in lifelong learning and professional development for film and media arts across Europe.

A New Standard for Flexible, Quality-Assured Learning

Developed by eight leading higher education institutions - Lusófona University (Portugal), LUCA School of Arts (Belgium), Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (Ireland), Tallinn University (Estonia), VIA University College (Denmark), Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (Lithuania), National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (Bulgaria), and Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (Slovakia)- the FilmEU Micro-Credentials Academy ensures that all courses are quality-assured, industry-relevant, and aligned with European standards such as the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

Diverse, Industry-Driven Course Catalogue

The academy’s catalogue features 40 courses with a minimum of 3 ECTS credits, and covers a wide range of topics including animation management, screenwriting for new formats, green production, sound design, documentary filmmaking, and more.

Courses are delivered in various formats - online, blended, and in-person - and are accessible in multiple languages, ensuring broad reach and inclusivity.

The full catalogue is available on the FilmEU Micro-Credentials Academy website.

Targeting a Broad Audience

The academy is designed to serve a diverse community: working professionals seeking to update or specialise their skills, career changers, students and recent graduates, freelancers, corporate teams, educators, and international learners.

By offering flexible, modular learning opportunities, FilmEU aims to lower barriers to access and foster a culture of lifelong learning in the creative industries.

A Strategic Commitment to Skills, Innovation, and Competitiveness

The launch of the FilmEU Micro-Credentials Academy follows an extensive collaboration among partner institutions that have a years long history of collaboration in the pedagogical field.

The academy’s future strategy includes ongoing curriculum development, joint course creation, enhanced quality assurance, targeted recruitment and a commitment to inclusivity.
