Sophie Quin

Sophie Quin is a research assistant for FilmEU and the Research Office at IADT.
She completed a BA Hons in Animation, specialising in hand-drawn animation and filmmaking. She then pursued a Master of Arts by Research at IADT, collecting a critical history of a small Irish animation studio using archival sources. Her research “Quin Films: Children’s Animation, National Broadcasting and Irish Cultural Identity,” was supported by the Irish Research Council under the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme 2021. During her Masters, she was an IADT student representative on FilmEU’s Academic Council. Since graduating in 2022, she has presented her research into Irish animation at international conferences including the Society for Animation Studies Annual Conference and the BAFTASS Conference.
Her current research interests include the history of the European and Irish animation industry, the non-human animal on screen, children’s television, and the use of archives and personal collections to better understand filmmaking practices.
