Raquel Sofia Santos

Graduation in Urban and Regional Planning (1999), Master’s degree on Innovation and Development Policies (2003), and PhD graduation in Political Science (2010) by the University of Aveiro, Portugal.


Between 2000/2002 had developed her professional activity as junior consultant in the field of strategic local planning and regional development in the private sector. Between 2002-2010, had integrated the research team of the Centre for Studies in Innovation and Entrepreneurial and Territorial Dynamics/ Centre of Governance and Public Policies, Faculty of Social, Juridical and Political Sciences, University of Aveiro. Her scientific areas of professional interest were: Higher education, Human capital development, regional economic development, and innovation policies. From February 2011 to October 2022, she developed her professional activity on the A3ES (Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education) as a project coordinator. Within the A3ES framework, she worked on the definition of the assessment internal procedure for accreditation of joint international programmes, under the scope of the European Universities projects. Presently, she is developing her activity as Director of the International Office, at Universidade Lusofona.


Relevant extra-curricular activities: between 2005-2008, was a board member of the national Association of Phd Students and Young Researchers (ABIC, Portugal) , between January 2006 to 2008, was President of the Academic Association of Young Researchers (NBIUA, Aveiro, Portugal) and, between March 2006 and March 2008, was general board member was general board member and Vice-President of European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Young Researchers (EURODOC).
