Stephen Boyd

Stephen Boyd is a lecturer in Film and Digtial Media Studies at IADT specialising in screen media, with a focus on Non-Western Cinemas, World Cinema, Irish Cinema, and film history and theory. He previously taught at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, and Trinity College Dublin and has published numerous articles on topics relating to Irish cinema and culture. Stephen has directed a film on 35mm with full cast and crew and he has taught and organized educational courses for the Irish Film Institute. Stephen has been a regular contributor on film culture in his capacity as a film critic on RTE Radio 1 for over 10 years (and for 5 years previous to that on Dublin City FM). He received his MA in Film Studies from University College Dublin, and is currently engaged in his PhD at Trinity College Dublin under Dr. Ruth Barton on the history and development of Irish surf films and their relationship with cultural heritage in the age of digital media. Stephen is a regular attendee and presenter at conferences and his most recent publication is a review of The Quiet Man Miscellany in the Estudio Irlandeses Journal (2021).
